The Charkadio Cave and Museum
The Charkadio cave is situated some two kilometers away from the Megalo Chorio village at the center of the island of Tilos. The cave was discovered by the geologist and speleologist Nikolaos Simeonides in 1971. The cave is renown across the world for its amazing abundance of paleontological remains of dwarf elephants. The excavations that started in 1971 have brought to light a great number of fossil bones mainly of dwarf elephants. Fossils and bones of a few other mammals were also found in the cave including those of deer, turtles and micro-mammals. Excavations conducted by the Department of Historical Geology and Paleontology of the University of Athens under the supervision of George Theodorou are still ongoing.
A small museum containing a number of findings from the cave has recently been inaugurated.

Walking from Aghios Panteleimonas towards Eristos on the island of Tilos
This is a beautiful hike which you should definitely attempt, the only problem being that you end up in another part of the island from which it is difficult to get back to your starting point. But you can always come back the same way. The path is relatively narrow and at times not clearly distinguishable, but there are quite a few paint signs on the rocks along the way. The view is simply stunning.
Gera
Here are a few pictures of another abandoned settlement on the island of Tilos in Greece. Gera has an eery feel to it, it is pretty spooky, as many of the buildings are in relatively good shape, while there's absolutely no one around. Still the view is stunning and you will certainly enjoy the stroll...
