The Fotis Spring

The Fotis spring is situated in a gorge next to the Castle of Antimachia to which it is linked by an underground conduit which you can clearly recognize in the first and last pictures of the post. The water flowed into the first and biggest of the two cisterns where it was stored. Access to this edifice was easy through window like openings. The vaulted ceiling, which still stands strong is a very interesting feature. Just two meters or so away, the second smaller chamber can be found. This one also has a vaulted ceiling. It has two water outlets on one side, right in the middle of a cylindrical piece of marble. The arch shaped structure that surrounds them is a typical form of muslim art. A small stone channel links the two cisterns and the water was most probably funneled through there and then released through the two outlets.
