Pothia

The town of Pothia is the capital of the island of Kalymnos and the main port of the island. It was built in the mid 19th century and has kept it's traditional aspect: you will surely spot quite a few stunning specimens of neoclassical housing. The new archaeological museum is worth a visit and gives you an insight on the history of the island from the prehistoric times to the Byzantine era. There is also a municipal naval museum you could visit while you can also purchase the classic natural sponges processed in Pothia. There are a multitude of cafes, bars and restaurants mostly on the shore front. A large variety of seafood is available as Kalymnians have always been a seafaring people that have learnt to appreciate what the seas have to offer and I would recommend that you try some out...
