Aghios Ioannis

Located on the southern side of Kos island, at the end of the asphalt road leading south out of Kefalos, you will find the picturesque Monastery of Aghios Ioannis (Saint John). At a distance of a mere 7 kms from Kefalos, it is painted in the traditional colors of white and blue.
The monastery lies near the top of a hill, is surrounded by vegetation and offers a breathtaking view of the bay lying in front of it.  A large plane tree offers its refreshing shade to visitors of the church  while in the area next to the church, benches and tables have been built where people can get together to feast and/or admire the view.
The church is rather small. Beautiful icons and amazing frescoes decorate the walls, while a golden chandelier hangs from the roof. Next to the church, you will not fail to notice a significant landmark: the old, half-ruined bell tower. The monastery celebrates its Saint on August 29th and lots of pilgrims flock there on that specific day to pay their respects.
